How to embed social media posts into your story

Embedded social media posts can help tell a story and can be used as quotes. Storify also can be used to create stories, but embedding posts often works better on mobile devices.

Twitter

  1. Find the tweet you want to embed. (To isolate a specific tweet, click on the date.)
  2. Click on the “more” ellipsis under the tweet. Scroll down to and click on “embed tweet.”
  3. Copy the embed code that Twitter provides. There may be a couple of options: If the tweet includes a video or photo, you can include (or not) the media. If the tweet is a reply to another tweet, you can include (or not) the parent tweet.
  4. Open a story in your content management system. Switch to HTML mode (called “text” in WordPress) and paste the embed code there. Exit HTML mode to continue writing your story.

Facebook

    1. Find the public Facebook post that you want to embed. (To isolate a specific post, click on the date.)
    2. Click on the arrow at the top right of the post. Scroll down to “more options,” then click on “embed post.”
    3. Copy the embed code that Facebook provides.
    4. Open a story in your content management system. Switch to HTML mode (“text” in WordPress) and paste the embed code there. Exit HTML mode to continue writing your story.

Instagram

  1. Find the photo that you want to embed. (To isolate a specific photo, click on the date.)
  2. Click on the ellipses at the bottom right of the post. Click on “embed” in the window that pops up.
  3. Copy the embed code that Instagram provides.
  4. Open a story in your content management system. Switch to HTML mode (“text” in WordPress) and paste the embed code there. Exit HTML mode to continue writing your story.

Vine

  1. Find the video that you want to embed. (To isolate a specific video, click on the date.)
  2. Click on the vertical ellipses at the top right of the post. Click on “embed.”
  3. Vine has several display options. By default, the embed is “simple” and 600 px wide. As a “simple” post, the username and caption show up on top of the video when someone rolls over it. A “postcard” post is similar to an Instagram embed: The username appears above the video, and the caption is below it. Make display adjustments, and copy the embed code that Vine provides.
  4. Open a story in your content management system. Switch to HTML mode (“text” in WordPress) and paste the embed code there. Exit HTML mode to continue writing your story.

Imgur

  1. Find the post that you want to embed.
  2. Click on “post options” under the image. Click on “embed post.”
  3. Copy the embed code that Imgur provides. Imgur has an option to hide the post details. It gets ride of the headline and text associated with the image.
  4. Open a story in your content management system. Switch to HTML mode (“text” in WordPress) and paste the embed code there. Exit HTML mode to continue writing your story.
